So it is proposed to start Herbal Garden and plants will be made available to the people. Seeds from the forests may be collected to establish a" Gene Banks" from which seeds can be sold throughout India. From rat, watch strap and spectacles can be manufactured.
The Snake catching and handling is one of the Irula's main skill.
In order to educate the public about the importance of snakes and eliminate the superstition and false belief on snakes, the Chennai Snake Park was started in 2nd October 1972 with the help of Mr.Romulus Whitaker.
The traditional knowledge on snakes acquired by Irula's are being utilized for capture, handling and maintenance of snakes and create awareness among the public. To uplift the Irula socio economic condition, frogs and rats were purchased from Irulas. However this benefits were limited to only few tribal. In order to extend the benefits across the Irula community this society was established.
